Six works from four Academy students were picked to be included in the 2007 Society of Illustrators Annual Student Show. This Juried competition is open to all art students at the college level. From over 4700 entrants, 23 works are picked to receive scholarship prizes, and a total of 119 pieces are included in the show. Sam Balfour, a 2006 graduate of the American Academy of Art, received a $3000 “Award in Memory of Phil Hays” in the 2007 Society of Illustrators Student Scholarship Competition. Balfour’s piece, titled “Thom York” is a 11” x 14” digitally created piece done in Photoshop. Sam also had a second work picked to be shown in the annual Student Show at the Society of Illustrators in New York, NY. Balfour received his BFA in Illustration in May 2006 at the American Academy of Art’s Graduation Ceremony. Current Academy senior Andrew Day, and sophomore Christina Beller each had two pieces each accepted into the show, and 2006 Academy graduate Phil El Rassi had one piece accepted. Along with being in the Annual Student Show, the winners are represented in a full-color promotional catalog as well as being included in Illustrators 48 Annual, a annual publication that showcases the year’s best illustration. Congratulations to all of the winners! |
