Schmid, Richard

RICHARD SCHMID attended the American Academy of Art from 1953-1956 and
is best known for his portrait work. Schmid has received many awards for
his work including the Gold Medal Award from the Portrait Society of
America in 1995, The John Singer Sargent Medal for Lifetime Achievement in
2000, and the Gold-Medal award from The Portrait Society of America in
2005. Mr. Schmid also holds an honorary doctorate degree from the Lyme
Academy College of Fine Arts in Old Lyme, CT. He has returned to the
Academy over the years as a Visiting Artist and would create painting
demos which are housed in the Academy’s archives.
