CHARLES VICKERY attended the American Academy of Art from 1940 to 1941.
Charles Vickery is best known for his dramatic oil portraits of the
“infinite moods of water”. Vickery enjoyed recognition and
adulation for
his work, such as: recognition as the “finest seascape artist of
our time”
by the Los Angeles Maritime Museum. Vickery received honorary commission
of Commander in the US Navy as an honored guest aboard the USS Pebble,
and
was also an honored guest aboard the “Queen Mary”. I.I. Percival,
Director
of the O’Mell Gallery in London, said of Mr. Vickery, “he
is most
definitely the best marine artist to come out of the United States”.
The
Clipper Ship Gallery in downtown La Grange, Illinois has been solely
dedicated to Mr. Vickery’s works since it opened in 1981. Today,
his oil
paintings, most of them waterscapes and depicting tall ships, are
prominently displayed in embassies, galleries and private homes and
offices around the world. To view Charles Vickery’s work, visit
