Burkhardt, Lou Ann

Foundations, Life Drawing

Lou Ann Burkhardt has been teaching life drawing at the American Academy of Art since 1986. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she coordinates and juries numerous exhibitions for the Bill L. Parks gallery each year as the Curator of Collections. She has held teaching positions at the Palette and Chisel Academy of Fine Arts in Chicago and the Tavern Club’s Life Drawing Evenings in Chicago.

Her dedication to teaching and mentoring young artists gained her recognition in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers in 1998. Other honors include nomination for the Chicago Mercedes Mentor Awards.

Ms. Burkhardt is a central figure in the artistic community in Chicago. From 1990 to 2001, she hosted many artistic events in her historic Tree Studio home. She is currently an active participant in artistic dialogue at the Palette and Chisel Academy of Fine Arts and the Newberry Library. She has studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy in addition to many other prestigious schools.

She has pursued her artistic education in a number of programs around the world.
