CARES Act

Category: Excluded

The federal government in March 2020 enacted the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act).  The CARES Act included a Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF).

HEERF funds under the CARES Act provided emergency financial aid grants to currently enrolled students for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to the Coronavirus.

Under the CARES Act, the Academy received an award for financial aid grants to currently enrolled students who were eligible for Title IV funding.  The Academy also received an award for institutional expenses.

Additional funding was allocated by the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund II (HEERF II) under the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA), December 2020.  The requirement for Title IV eligibility for students was eliminated, although funds needed to be first prioritized to students with exceptional need.
